CARBONDALE, Ill. — For 29 minutes in Fargo yesterday, Southern Illinois looked like a team that could defy the odds and upset FCS powerhouse North Dakota State. Things quickly unraveled for the Salukis, who became the 16th-straight Bison victim in the Fargodome.
At 4-2, where does this Saluki Football team stand at the midway point of the season? The answer — the Dawgs are still in prime position to make a second-half playoff push.
Using history as a guide, SIU will need seven or eight wins to make the 24-team FCS playoffs. Nine wins puts the Salukis in the conversation for a first-round bye. There will be a lot at stake every Saturday for the next six weeks.
