CARBONDALE, Ill. — Saluki Football head coach Nick Hill spoke to the team on Report Day (July 26, 2026), the night before the opening of training camp.
"The pathway to greatness is laid out by lots of people. And they would all say the same thing. It's all going to be hard. But when you get there, it's all worth it.
We got to be tough. We got to be able to close games. We got to be able to win in multiple ways. Everything we do is important. There'll be a game where we get in a shootout this year. We got to be built to do that. And we got to go find a way when things are tough, and we got to go win 7-6 or 10-7. And the locker room feels the same.
It takes withstanding runs. You're playing a good team, and the schedule we have, I promise you, we're going to go somewhere and there's going to be some ebbs and flows and some runs and you got to have the mental stamina to be like, okay, this just happened. Let's reset. Let's keep rolling. If we want to go do what we say, and put our money where our mouth is, it's got to be like that.
You need everybody in the game of football. You need the other dude to be balling, pulling in the right direction, responding the right way, working through some differences in the locker room or off the field or whatever it is.
If we want to be great, all that stuff matters. Everybody good? Men, let's go."
