Final thoughts ahead of Illinois State
CARBONDALE, Ill. — Two teams fighting to avoid a third conference loss will square off at Saluki Stadium later today in a nationally televised showdown on ESPNU.
With a win, the Salukis (3-4, 1-2) could deal a heavy blow to the Redbirds (4-2, 0-2), who haven’t started 0-3 in the conference since the 2021 season, when they finished 2-6 in the Valley.
Southern has the same 1-2 league record it started with in 2025, then SIU rallied to win three of its last five games.
Will history repeat itself?
