Final thoughts ahead of Northern Iowa

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Northern Iowa is the only FCS program this season to have beaten two teams ranked in the Top 5 (Illinois State and North Dakota). It’s an impressive stat.

On the other hand, the Panthers (3-3, 2-1) have lost 15-straight road games dating back to the beginning of the 2024 season. That’s a not-so-impressive stat.

One thing is certain about Northern Iowa — it is the surprise team of the Missouri Valley Football Conference this season. Picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll, no one expected them to become a ranked team (currently No. 21) or to be tied for the fewest league losses at mid-season.

Here’s a detailed look at today’s Saluki Football opponent and keys to the game.
