Final thoughts ahead of Youngstown State

CARBONDALE, Ill. — You get the feeling that today’s Saluki Football game versus Youngstown State could be a bellwether for the rest of the season.

With a victory, SIU would be off to a 2-0 start in the ultra-competitive Missouri Valley Football Conference and secure a coveted Top 10 win. The Salukis (3-2, 1-0) could also hand the Penguins (3-2, 1-1) their second league loss and get a leg-up on a potential tiebreaker with YSU.

Much of the pregame hype has focused on YSU quarterback Beau Brungard, widely considered to be the best player in the FCS.

South Dakota State provided a blueprint on how to beat Youngstown. So, how did the Jackrabbits do it? How are teams attacking the Penguins this year? How might Southern try to replicate those efforts? We have the answers.
