CARBONDALE, Ill. — During his Monday presser, SIU head coach Nick Hill updated the status of quarterback DJ Williams, saying the fifth-year QB is still “week-to-week” with a knee injury.

Williams was “out on the field throwing it around" in practice, according to Hill, and “there’s a chance” he could play versus SEMO on Saturday, “but we’re always going to do what’s in the best interest of DJ.”

Hill also provided injury updates on left tackle Blaine Halley and quarterback Jake Curry. Halley should return this week after missing the Samford game in concussion protocol. Curry probably “wasn’t 100 percent last week,” but he’s getting better and it’s “nothing structural” in his throwing arm.

Hill announced that Banterra Bank is purchasing 500 tickets to Saturday’s game for members of his hometown, the Du Quoin community, which suffered devastating fires in the downtown area last week.

“Thank God there was no loss of life, but it’s sad for the small business that have been there for generations and for the people that lost their jobs,” he said. “There were 34 communities that rallied to support Du Quoin. That’s what this southern Illinois region is about — people caring for their neighbor and wanting to help.”

The MVFC office announced on Monday afternoon that linebacker Ben Fiegel is the league's Defensive Player of the Week, and defensive end Ibrahim Sanogo is the Newcomer of the Week.

Looking back at last week’s game at Samford, here’s a review of the key performances. One unit, in particular, had an impressive night for the Salukis. Read on to find out who stood out in Game 2.
