CARBONDALE, Ill. — Saluki Football received some unexpected good news from tight end Miles Marshall, who has decided to delay his entry to law school so that he can use his final year of eligibility to play football this season.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Kansas City native graduated from SIU in May and had planned to devote himself to law school full-time in the fall.
“I believe in my ability to become a lawyer one day, but I know time is running out on football, and I really wanted to be a part of this team one more time,” Marshall explained.
After redshirting in 2022, Marshall has played in 34 games for the Salukis the last three seasons (2023-25). Primarily known as powerful in-line blocker, he’s also developed as a receiver, catching five passes in the last six games of the 2025 season, including a pair of touchdowns.

“I thought about what SIU meant to me, and I thought that not taking my chance to seize this opportunity and play one more year was something that I could potentially regret in the future,” Marshall added.
Marshall brings a veteran presence to Southern’s tight end room, which is otherwise is made up entirely of freshmen and sophomores.
Returning tight ends from last year’s team include sophomores Aiden Moriarty and Karsen Konkel, plus redshirt freshman Patrick Carr. The Salukis also have three incoming freshmen — Ethan Brinkmann, Levi Shoemaker and Jack Webb.
“I have no doubt that we all have the ability to get it done and we will be interchangeable throughout the season,” Marshall said. “I see it as more of a chance to lead by example. I feel like I'm vocal, but I'm not going to force anything. We have a great coach in Coach (Nate) Griffin, and I'll let him take the lead, but I'll be his right-hand man when he needs me to.”
