CARBONDALE, Ill. — In Part 1 of a StrongDawgs exclusive video series with SIU head coach Nick Hill, he talks about the impact Saluki Football has had on his life and his excitement about the future of the program.

“This program is really who I am. It's made me into who I am professionally as the coach now for going on my 13th season a part of the program and then as a player coming here it changed really the trajectory of my life. I go on from basketball to football and about half of my life has been a part of Saluki Athletics, Saluki Football.
I have a lot of pride in that. I don't like talking about all the things that we've done, but when reflecting back, you have to have confidence in doing this job. Like anybody that's going to sign up to lead young men, I think that the number-one thing that for a leader is you have to collectively get people to believe in where we're going, and I believe that I can still do that. Being a head coach, as I've learned, is the people you surround yourself with, putting good people around you and letting them do their jobs. (Finding) good coaches that want to be a part of it and believe in what a place this can be.
We haven't accomplished what we've all ultimately set out to do and that's to win a conference championship and ultimately a national championship, which I believe can be done here. Competitively, I believe we've put together competitive teams that have competed at a high level, and I believe our peers respect that and know that as well, but we're still chasing, and I think that's what gets you excited about coming to work every day. Each offseason, putting together a new team with a belief and excitement that this team will be the team to go and do that.
I'm excited every day. I've tried to represent the program and this university with integrity. I just try to speak positivity to this place. I believe in this place.
I'm very grateful for the administration for believing in me. I wouldn't still be here if I didn't believe in this place, this region.”
